How syncing and files on demand work on Windows
Last reviewed Lees dit in het Nederlands
All your Endorr Cloud files appear in File Explorer but only take disk space when you open them. Changes sync both ways; conflicts keep both versions.
What you see
Everything in Endorr Cloud, for every organisation on your account, shows up in File Explorer under Endorr Cloud (%USERPROFILE%\Endorr). Files are on demand: they take no disk space until you open them.
Each file has a status:
- Online only: not on this PC yet. Opening it downloads it.
- Available on this device: downloaded. It is freed again when you go over the disk budget or leave it unopened for 30 days.
- Always kept on this device: right-click → Always keep on this device. Never freed. Use Free up space to make it online-only again.
The disk budget is 20 GB by default and can be changed in Settings. Pinned files and edits that have not synced yet are never freed.
Two-way sync
- Files you add or change in the folder upload once they have been unchanged for a moment. Only the changed parts of a file upload, so editing a 2 GB file uploads a few MB. Uploads resume after an interruption.
- Changes made elsewhere arrive within seconds.
- The folder location cannot be changed yet, and you cannot exclude folders from sync.
Conflicts
If the same file was changed on two devices, both versions are kept. Your version is renamed, for example Report (Sam's PC conflicted copy 2026-09-24 10.30).pdf, and the app shows Both versions kept.
Synced files keep earlier versions for 30 days.
Files that are not synced
Temporary files of Office and browsers (such as ~$…, *.tmp, *.crdownload, *.partial) and desktop.ini, Thumbs.db and .DS_Store are ignored. If you can only view a file in Endorr, your change stays on this PC and the app tells you.
Pause and offline
Pause syncing from the tray icon; changes stay on your PC until you resume. Offline, files you already opened keep working, and the app keeps retrying.
